Insurgentes, Lasse Holle’s movie about Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield and No-Man) is a musical road movie that follows the making of Wilson’s first solo album with the same name. Insurgentes explores music and the album as an art form and the movie looks into the issues of creating and marketing music in our modern society. We also meet Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Aviv Geffen (Blackfield) and producer Trevor Horn. The movie also follows Wilson back to his roots and what made him become a musician. As much as I love Wilson’s music, especially Porcupine Tree, I can’t appreciate this movie as it is chaotic and too weird at times. I saw it just once and that was already a torture... The second DVD features a lot of extras like: - a 31-minute film of Bass Communion and Pig live in Mexico City that has absolutely nothing to do with music; it’s just a piece of sound and soundscapes!; - a promo video for the song Harmony Karine - two trailers; - footage of a question and answer session with Wilson and Lasse Holle at the international premier of the movie; - six audio outtakes from the album recording sessions. So, all in all this DVD is only for the real die-hard Wilson-fans; I really didn’t like it as I said before. According to ‘yours truly’ this has nothing to do with progressive rock music.
