Sometimes you wonder about the decision of a band to release only an EP. This is the case with Van, the band of Polish musician Barbara Zielinska-Van, who offers us three melodic songs on the EP Surfaces. Music which leaves the listener desiring more because the excellent voice of Karolina Mazurska, the flute of guest Bikram Singh and especially the continuously in the background wandering violin of Marcin Skaba (which sounds like the guitar of Hawkwind’s Hugh Lloyd-Langton in his better days) make that Surfaces passes much too soon. I had not heard of Barbara but according to her (not very updated) website she has been in the music business for quite a while, and listening to Surfaces I hope she stays a bit longer. At least long enough to make a full-blown CD in the vain of Surfaces.
