Are you in for a joke? Because you can't take it too serious when you read the following band biography: Stick'n'stones - an American rock band formed in 2112 in Heyburn, Idaho at the initiative of guitarist Ross Fromjoy, bassist Arcadio Rusc and keyboardist Peter Noray. After the mysterious disappearance of drummer mr. Derek, the band suspended its activities in 2119. A reunion took place in 2123 when a new drummer, Doctor Tornado, joined the band - military android Bosman 9 produced before the war at the Unimor Factory in Gdańsk". I guess not. But sometimes musicians try something differently to get into the spotlight. Well let me explain what this album is all about and if the music can be taken seriously. The music for this album, titled Dryland Rock, was written for the comic book Futuro Darko by Krzysztof Nowak. Nine instrumental compositions, although there seemed to be some human voices on No Lungs, musically describing the adventures of the Stick N Stones band! The music was composed by "Ross Fromjoy". Who is hiding under the pseudonym "Ross Fromjoy" ?! But in reality Ross Fromjoy is in daily life Roman Odoj. A guitar player and composer from Poland. On a daily basis he is also a maths teacher and a music teacher in a guitar class at Młodzieżowe Studium Muzyki Rozrywkowej in Olesno. It seemed he got some musical assistance from Arkadiusz Suchara and Piotr Dziadkowiec. The mastering of the material was prepared by Odoj and was handled by his collaborator Przemysław Rudź. Roman composed all the songs himself except for the theme Damn, These Guys Are Good, which was created in cooperation with Arkadiusz Suchara. Roman Odoj was inspired to compose 40 minutes of music for this comic book which might be an imaginary comic book. Because everything about this release might not be true in real life except for the music which you can hear when you put the compact disc in your music system. Music which sounds very modern with influences taken from progressive rock, synthpop, spacerock and metal. The use of many synthesizers and a drum machine gives the music a rather modern and futuristic sound. Its rather difficult to compare it with any other bands, as for the songs they are all of the same musical level. A musical level which is rather enjoyable to listen to. I guess you have to find out yourself if the album Dryland Rock from the band Stick N Stones is something you can enjoy as much as I did myself. If you don't take life too seriously and like to dream away with a musical expedition of an extraordinary band with an imaginary biography this is your cup of tea for sure. Please check out the bandcamp link if you are into the music of the future. *** Henri Strik (edited by Tracy van Os van den Abeelen) Where to buy? |
