The Soft Hearted Scientists are a quartet from Cardiff. They have been around since 2001, starting as a duo, now being a quartet. After releasing Uncanny Tales From The Everyday Undergrowth (2005).Take Time To Wonder In A Whirling World (2007), Scarecrow Smile (2009), Wandermoon (2011), False Lights (2013) the band released their sixth album The Slow Cyclone in 2014. This one was recorded by Nathan Hall (vocals, guitars, keyboards, electronics, effects, percussion), Dylan Line (guitars, keyboards, electronics, effects), Paul Jones (vocals, guitars, keyboards, electronics, effects, percussion) and Michale Bailey (bass). Furthermore they got some help from guest musician Gaz Williams on bass.

There is something very British about the Soft Hearted Scientists: a little bit of The Beatles, melancholy, black humor and stiffness. With twenty four tracks in less than one hour the average length is just over two minutes. The band is influenced by the early psychedelic music of the 1960s. But they also use synthesizers and electronics in their music. Some of their song titles are sung in Welsh.

The tracks aren't really songs with breaks and choruses and so on. They are more like little melodies and short tunes. The album sounds like a soundtrack to a comedy. Like many soundtracks the music doesn't stand without the images.
