Oneironauts is the ninth album of Quantum Fantay, a Belgian spacerockband which sometimes sounds as the notorious Hawkwind. The music of QF is instrumental, weird, complex, and technical and it is in fact a blend of electronic music, progressive rock, space rock and psychedelic rock; so, put on your headphones, turn up the volume and head off into space! Pete Mush wrote all the tracks, played keyboards, bass guitar and flute parts and also recorded all the eight tracks in his own Mushroomland studio. Opening track Flight Into Hive Mind sets the tone for this rather remarkable album, featuring hypnotic rhythms, soaring guitar work and lots of melodic symphonic rock characteristics. Follow up Wakening, featuring Ed Wynne (Ozric Tentacles) on guitars, is a 100% pure psychedelic space rock song featuring elements from Hawkwind and even Tangerine Dream. Scurdy Flurdy - weird title by the way - and Upwards And Onwards have more rocky elements, especially the guitar and bass work. Orchid Borealis, the last song of this maybe a bit too long album, is again a true space rock song where the listener is invited to a hypnotic musical journey through the cosmos of space rock; so, play it LOUD and enjoy that one indeed. Oneironauts is a must have album for fans of instrumental space rock and if you genuinely like this kind of stuff be aware as you might get addicted to this new album of Quantum Fantay. Listening tip: Wakening. ***+ Martien Koolen (edited by Tracy van Os van den Abeelen) Where to buy? |
