The young French multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Piveteau created the instrumental project Progression By Failure. Since Piveteau is a keyboard player in the first place, the six tracks on this debut album are evidently dominated by keyboards, bringing back memories of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. However, most tracks also comprise prog rock elements and modern musical trends, ranging from bombastic symfo rock to delicate piano parts. Dialog With A Selfish is partly an up-tempo song with of course many piano passages and keyboard solos, while Memories From The Future also features some funky and jazzy parts. The eponymous track is a real epic, quite diverse with different melancholic moods, but with subtle and very melodic sequences as well. Thus, if you like the music of Thomas Bodin, ELP, Tangerine Dream and Camel, then you will probably find enough material on this album that appeals to you. *** Martien Koolen (edited by Peter Willemsen) Where to buy? |
