From the dungeons of the Polish Lynx Music label proAge reached my CD player. Nice to know that this is an English version of the Polish record named Odmienny Stan Rzeczywistości . I always sympathize with bands who take the effort of recording a English version like (for instance) Ange did with Par Les Fils De Mandrin. The first sounds you hear remind of the early Riverside, I know it states the obvious... The singer Mariusz Filocheck tries his best to sound as English as possible. But his accent is sometimes too heavy to make up the right words. We'll say: “It has his charm.” The eleven tracks on this CD are a nice mix of neo prog and some heavier prog (metal). Even on a few tracks someone tries to grunt/ scream to give an accent in the lyrics. You either love it or hate it. I personally don't think it adds anything to the music. It all sounds nice, but the compositions aren't of a very high quality standard. Sometimes a bit playful to break the style (Plan B), lyrically not very strong, or immature repeating (Whispers And Memories). But also serious matters are being sung in Charlie Hebdo. A protest song for sure. As you listen to this album you notice the accent is getting a bit tiresome. I wonder if it is the same when he sings in his own language. I think this band will grow through time, you can hear they are still developing. Sometimes there are strong moments (Takeaway Life) but you'll notice there is much to be won. I think they can do it. The singer has to concentrate more on his pronunciation if he wishes to continue in English. Mariusz Duda succeeded in an excellent way too.
