Pinn Dropp, weird name by way, is a Polish progressive rock band, and according to the band's bio the new album For The Love Of Drama combines the energy of progressive rock with the heaviness of Black Sabbath riffs, creating a sound where tradition meets modernity. Well, after a couple of spins I have to say that I can agree with that "bold" statement, as the music on this album is indeed an intense journey through progressive rock and progressive metal.

The short instrumental First Steps opens this album, and it features keyboard orchestration galore, followed by a ringing bell, which is the intro for the first real song called Unholy; a track with lots of heavy guitar passages, keyboard textures, and incisive vocals. Follow up Point Of No Return is a mix of neo and classic prog rock, while the second part of this song is more of a metal like rocker with lots of guitar innovations.

Recycled Feelings is a completely different kind of song as it opens with dreamy atmospheres (complete with strings) and refined guitar arpeggios, and this song actually reminds me of the German band Sylvan. Logismoi, a Greek term, used to describe assaultive or tempting thoughts, is another metal/hard rock-like track, featuring plenty of galloping guitar riffs and pounding drums and stumping bass guitar hooks.

The title track is the longest one and clocks in over eleven minutes, and it is a rather slow classic prog rock song filled with expressive, long instrumental passages and heartfelt vocals. Last Footsteps, the final track, opens with a quiet piano intro and ends with a melancholic orchestral outro, ending this versatile album in a soothing and atmospheric way indeed.

Overall, Pinn Dropp's new album features very dynamic prog rock/metal music galore and I would highly recommend it to fans of modern progressive rock with metal influences.

Listening tip: Unholy!
