Past And Secrets the progressive metal project of guitarist Yohan Delasalle hails from Lille in France and his new album is an instrumental EP, consisting of five tracks all featuring different guitar players. All the tracks are rather "heavy" and even metal-like, reminiscent of old albums of Marty Friedman, Greg Howe and all those other heavy guitarists from that time. Opening track Above Us features Belgian guitar picker Greg Schollaert and his guitar solos, riffs, hooks, and shreds are blistering and very expressive indeed. Follow up Come On Board features the Polish guitar player Radek Stojda and his style is characterized by driving tempos and his solos are intricate and aggressive making Come On Board an extraordinarily strong and powerful instrumental hard rock track. The third track called World features Czech Brian Bajak, and this track is hard, fast and has some brilliant guitar explosions combined with formidable synthesizer passages from Delasalle. Sleep Well, Little Child features French guitar picker Mika Dienst and his playing is serene filled with lots of melancholy and for me this one is the highlight of this EP. The closing track called Together On A Mountain features the Italian guitarist Demetrio Scopelliti and his playing is again, just like in the opening track, immensely powerful and this composition is mixed with lots of aggressive riffs and hooks, ending this impressive guitar album with a blast. Overall, this EP is a MUST for lovers of instrumental prog metal as it will definitely resonate with fans of progressive and instrumental heavy music alike.
