Mrs.Kite are a German prog rock band hailing from Cologne who have won the German rock and pop award three times already for best progressive band. Mrs.Kite are a four piece band consisting of Florian Schuch (lead and backing vocals, pianos, organs, synthesizers), Philipp Verenkotte (drums), Ferdinand Schuch (acoustic & electric guitars, backing vocals, FX) and Lukas Preußer (bass guitars). With Christoph Jäger on additional electric guitars (1, 2, 3, 8). After listening to this album for the first time I would say that these guys are influenced by Porcupine Tree and RPWL. When I heard Flickering Lights a few more times I noticed that most of the songs are indeed too tedious and wearisome, as most compositions lack originality and diversity. This especially accounts for tracks like The Old Man (way too long...), Questions and By The Lake, which do not seem to come alive. This album kicks off with the two best songs on the album, Just Some Flickering Lights (featuring PT-like guitar riffs) and Kurschatten, featuring beautiful harmony singing, a great chorus and some nice guitar hooks. However, what bothers me most about this art rock album is the fact that singer Schuch really sounds too monotonous and I feel that his voice does not really fit in with the music of the band. I truly miss some great songs that kick you in the teeth now and then and I also miss a couple of nice guitar solos, as these are really hard to find on this album.
