Dutch guitar picker and songwriter Wouter van der Veen (ex-Armed Cloud and Steelyard) returns with a new band/project called Mirror Mirage. This new album is an EP, and it consists of three tracks featuring heavy riffs, melodic vocals, pounding drums and intricate guitar solos. Opening track Too Close To The Sun is a quiet and ballad-like track kicking off this EP in a very decent way as it is a very accessible song; almost radio friendly indeed. Next up is For All The Missing Pieces and this is a great metal-like track with excellent guitar work and vocals by van der Veen. Finally, Law Of The Jungle, is the highlight of this EP; a great metal-like song with influences from Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, featuring a soaring guitar solo and excellent vocals by guest singer Frank Leemhuis. Missing Pieces is a short but sweet "new" introduction to the music of Wouter van der Veen; a great fresh start and I am looking forward to more new material of Mirror Mirage. Listening tip of course: Law Of The Jungle at maximum volume!! **** Martien Koolen (edited by Dave Smith) Where to buy? |
