The German rock band Long Distance Calling debuted with their instrumental album Satellite Bay in 2007 and now 9 years later, they release their fifth full studio album called TRIPS. Long Distance Calling is a four piece band consisting of David Jordan (guitar), Florian Fṹntmann (guitar), Janosch Rathmer (drums) and Jan Hoffmann (bass guitar) who are joined on this album by Petter Carlsen (vocals) and Marsen Fischer (keyboards).

TRIPS is an album containing 9 songs with the music being a blend of prog, pop, alternative, metal and rock. The opening song Getaway is an instrumental one filled with electronica and to me this remarkable track features some rather characteristic elements of the Krautrock band Kraftwerk. Trauma, another highlight on the album, is again an instrumental track being very powerful, filled with heavy riffs and twists and turns. Even heavier is the following song called Lines, which features a real head banging guitar riff that will be in your system (read: ears) for a couple of days to come! But of course the absolute milestone of this great album is the closing track Flux. Clocking over 12 minutes, Flux is an instrumental highlight of the first order, filled with psychedelia, excellent guitar work, hypnotic keyboards and lots of musical extravaganza. In fact the entire album is filled with excellent songs and TRIPS is one of the better albums I have heard this year, so far...

TRIPS is an amazing album showing a German rock band at its best, as TRIPS is their best album ever by far. Listen and enjoy, you will love it.
