Legacy Pilots's Thru The Lens (2024, see review), featuring Frank Us, John Mitchell, Jake Livgren, Steve Morse and guitar hero Steven Rothery, was an addictively enjoyable album indeed. Now, this notorious band releases - thanks to Steven Rothery who invited them as a support act - a live album, and the package will include an LP, along with a CD.

For this live debut and one-time performance, Frank Us (keyboards, vocals) assembled the following band: Finally George (George Hahn) on vocals, John Enghausen on guitar, Daniel Otte on bass guitar and Kai Weidle on drums. Night Flight was recorded live at The Docks on 11th October 2024 and the album contains seven tracks and one bonus song.

One track called Wide Wide World is from their Aviation album (2020), two tracks, Better Days and Ghost Of The Ocean, from The Penrose Triangle album (2021, see review), two tracks, True Spirit and The Even Chance from the Helix (2023, see review) album, and three tracks, Nemesis, The Matter and Don't Chase The Rainbows from their last studio album Thru The Lens.

Nemesis and The Matter are both a mix of pop and rock, featuring addictive melodies, but originally sung on Thru The Lens by John Mitchell, the live versions are not as good as the studio ones, sad but true.... True Spirit and the bonus track The Even Chance are originally sung by Mitchell as well, so the live versions of these two marvellous songs are vocally less interesting than the studio ones. Musically however, these tracks are still great to hear in the flesh, although guitar picker is definitely no Steven Rothery....

Better Days and Ghost Of The Ocean from The Penrose Triangle are the highlights of this album, although the vocals of Finally George cannot really "match", compete with those of one of the best prog rock singers, being John Mitchell of course ....

Overall, Night Flight is not a bad album, by all means, but, seeing the fact that the studio versions are so awesome, it is really hard to "compete" with musicians like Rothery, Micthell, Marco Minnemann and Pete Trewavas; but enough said; listen for yourself and decide if you like/buy this album.
