Infringement is a Norwegian prog rock band founded in 2015 by Stig Clason (guitars), Kristoffer Utby (drums) and Hans Brandal (vocals); later keyboarder Bard Thorstensen joined the fold and Emil Olsen (bass guitar, vocals) is the newest band member. Black Science & White Lies, Infringement's third album is a concept album and it only features two tracks, being: White Lies, clocking in over twenty minutes and Black Science, clocking in over twenty-two minutes. So, two epic songs, dealing with truly heavy issues, like identity, faith, and redemption. The music of Infringement is a blend between neo prog rock and symphonic rock, therefore highlighting lots of musical twists and turns, with sometimes excellent guitar solos and howling keyboard passages indeed. The vocals of Brandal are probably a bit awkward and you really like or dislike his almost out of tune singing; but sometimes this Norwegian vocalist reminds me of Fish and or Alan Reed. So, the music is complex, and you really need to listen to this album a couple of times to really appreciate it and the best way to listen to Black Science & White Lies is with your headphones on, so.... The only thing I really did not like on this album was the role of the protagonist, as he talks way too much in my opinion, but the music of Infringement is high class neo prog indeed, I especially love the melodic guitar solos of Stig Clason, so check this album out and play it LOUD indeed! **** Martien Koolen (edited by Tracy van Os van den Abeelen) Where to buy? |
