Band info. "The pioneering sound of Bola Electronic Band featuring Fernando Carmona on guitars and Jesús Carmona on synthesizers is reborn. Originally recorded as a demo in 1979, this work was ahead of its time: a unique fusion of electronic sounds, guitars, analogue rhythms, and experimental atmospheres. Seville 1979, the Carmona brothers presented a new sound and an innovative stage show. Anticipating the future, they embraced a different way of making music: more electronic elements, programming, striking sound effects, and more. They also incorporated white wigs, magic balls, lighting effects, and costumes that seemed otherworldly into their live performances. Fernando (Fernan) handled the composition, guitars, and electronic programming. Jesús played keyboards and synthesizers. Together, they created a passionate world brimming with shimmering sounds and a fusion of Andalusian influences. Many will be surprised, others will be incredulous, because today 5 Lunas has recovered those original demos and lovingly restored them, respecting their essence to the fullest. This CD boasts exceptional quality, a dream many have shared, and once again, like other works in our catalogue, it has become a reality. We've also included two bonus tracks: Boladelia (recorded in 2009) and Bolerías 2025 (recorded in 2025)." Well, to me this music sounds as an interesting and pleasant blend of electronic music, Rock Andaluz and progressive rock, my highlights. It starts with melodic progrock like Camel, early Marillion and Barclay James Harvest with moving electric guitar and Rock Andaluz hints, then sequencing and again with wonderful electric guitar work in El Cielo Azul. You get a catchy beat with 80s synthi-pop and elements from Jon Anderson &Vangelis in Tengo Un Anillo De Plástico. My favourite is Bolerías. First an intro with classical guitar, then soaring strings and flamenco, a wonderful combination. A sequencer beat follows, blended with sensational pitchbend driven synthesizer flights and an exciting electric guitar solo, evoking the Rock Andaluz of Iman. An abridged new version is included as a bonus track. A Tangerine Dream-like electronic music atmosphere (Encore/Live USA 1977) with sequencing and electric guitar follows in El Baile De Los Electrones. Swinging sequencer sounds, native vocals and in the end a short electric guitar solo show up in the title track. A slow beat embellished with spacey synthesizers, hypnotizing distorted vocals, the distinctive vocoder, electric guitar, and strings are features in La Escalera. The cheerful and catchy rack Himno De La Bola (3:45) reminds me of fellow Spanish electronic band Neuronium. And finally Por Si La Piden features a swinging sequencer, a fiery electric guitar solo and Jean-Michel Jarre-like synthesizer runs, "electronic music meets rock", a captivating sound! The atmospheric bonus track Boladelia contains swinging sequencing and a fiery distorted guitar solo. **** Erik Neuteboom (edited by Dave Smith) Where to buy? |
