Blossom Cult is a German rock band blending alternative and progressive metal, which results in catchy hooks, complex arrangements, atmospheric and orchestral elements. highly versatile vocals, and sad but true some superfluous death metal screams. The band members are Janos Romualdo Krusenbaum (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards), Max Trockenberg (Guitars, Backing Vocals), Elias Bauer (Keyboards, Backing Vocals), Maurice Hoch (Bass) and Peter Robers (Drums). Home is Blossom Cult's first full-length album, and it is a concept album which kind of reminds me - sound wise that is- of the legendary Pain Of Salvation. Red Pill, Black Pill and White Pill are short spoken pieces and to me it is not noticeably clear how they fit in with the rest of the album.... Wake Up is the first real song and it is heavy and there even are some "grunts," which I absolutely loath.... Follow up Death To The Gatekeepers is a prog metal piece with a seemingly catchy melody, while Open Arms is crunchy and heavy. However, the second half of Home is not so heavy, as Traitor even is a theatrical neo prog track in the veins of Threshold, while Waltz Of The Beyond is the obligatory ballad. Overall, a mixed album which is sometimes hard to digest, but as is stated in the band's biography, Home invites listeners to pause amid the chaos of the present and perhaps discover a new understanding of home; nicely put indeed! *** Martien Koolen (edited by Tracy van Os van den Abeelen) Where to buy? |
