Biomass Music

Biomass is the moniker of the Californian musician Walter James Douglas. He files himself under electronic music, ambient, techno, psychedelic, electro, industrial and Berlin School. He's influenced by CTI, Chris & Cosey, Autechre, Skinny Puppy, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Underworld, Ambient Temple Of Imagination and Steve Roach. Indeed, his music contains elements from all these acts. The first tracks remind me of Cyborg (1972), the second album by Klaus Schulze. These are all long tracks built up around a repetitive pattern of sounds forming some kind of rhythm. On top of that you hear spacey sounds and lots of echo. Of course the instruments that Biomass used have been improved a lot since 1972. Therefore the album sounds rather outdated. This music can be best played loud or with headphones. By doing so it becomes a bit hypnotic, but as a whole it's too minimalistic and it lacks moods and tension as well.
