Last year super prog rock band Transatlantic released their final album called The Final Flight: Live At L'Olympia Bruno Coquatrix Paris (see review) and it was THE best prog album of 2023, but now we are treated to more Transatlantic live material as Live At Morsefest 2022: The Absolute Whirlwind will be released on 26 April.
The question is, can this album set another standard in prog rock music after the brilliant Final Flight? And the answer is, yes it certainly can, as Live At Morsefest is the ultimate Transatlantic live experience indeed. You can enjoy this amazing performance on the limited Deluxe 5CD, 2 Blu-ray artbook edition and you will love and cherish it for sure.

On these two nights, Neal Morse (keyboards, acoustic guitar, vocals), Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals), Roine Stolt (guitar, vocals), Pete Trewavas (bass, vocals) and extra musician Ted Leonard (guitar, keyboards, percussion, vocals), performed, for the very first time, alongside a choir and string section, making the listening experience even grander!! Night one was filled with Transatlantic's classic album The Whirlwind (2009, see review, the first time in ten years that Morse & Co. did this, by the way) and a couple of surprises; being: Into The Blue and Shine from the album Kaleidoscope (2014, see review) and a track that the band has never played live before... The latter being In Held (Twas) In I, a cover of Procol Harum, which can be found on Transatlantic's debut album SMPTe (2000) as well.

Night two (CD3) features the complete masterpiece The Absolute Universe, The Ultimate Edition, combining all of the tracks from the two versions of that album and needless to say that this is an impressive prog rock experience indeed, as the band shines here in all its musical glory; play it LOUD indeed! The Morsefest performance ended with Bridge Across Forever (2001) and of course the epic Final Medley, including Stranger In Your Soul, All Of The Above and My New World.

Again, my question (rhetorical. of course) is: can it get any better than this..... nah, probably NOT, Live At Morsefest 2022: The Absolute Whirlwind is already THE BEST prog rock album of the year 2024 and I am truly addicted to it for sure; I just can't get enough of this brilliant stuff, although my wife starts to complain that I am listening to this album again and again, and again. Masterpiece, get it as soon as it is released and enjoy.
