The British band Times Up were formed back in 2006, initially consisting of Geoff Smith (vocals, keyboards) and Andy Gibbon (bass), but soon supplemented by the compositional and instrumental skills of Mike Hagland (guitars) and Steve Leman (drums). Their debut album Snow Queen was released in the spring of 2012.

The first time I listened to this album I thought I was in a time machine travelling back in time more than thirty-five years. This album is so seventies that I couldn't believe it! Snow Queen is a true retro album giving me the creeps actually. It's so overdone and so retro that I can hardly describe it! The vocals are over the top and the longer the songs get, the more boring they become! Some people will surely call this a classic rock album with hints of symphonic prog and lots of psychedelic rock from the seventies, but to me it just sounds boring. This certainly isn't a contemporary album; it's old-fashioned, and hopelessly outdated. Come on guys, this is 2013 and not 1976!

It's really hard for me to say anything positive about this Snow Queen, but maybe diehard fans of seventies retro-rock might like this album filled with bombastic seventies rock from another planet. I prefer to stay on planet Earth 2013 and wish Times Up all the best with their obsolete music.
