Landskap is a British band that have three albums to their name. Their latest one was released in May 2016, entitled III. The first two albums were published in 2014 and both came out in digital format first and later on vinyl. The band's second CD II was released by Black Widow Records in 2015. Thanks to a review copy I was able to learn more about Landskap.
At the time of the original release the band consisted of Jake Harding (vocals), George Pan (guitar), Frederic Caure (bass), Kostas Panagiotou (keyboards) and Paul Westwood (drums). Nowadays the band has Christopher West on bass guitar. The music on their second album isn't the usual music I listen to. The main reason is that the songs they wrote for this release not only contain progressive rock but also influences taken from doom metal, psychedelic rock, blues, gothic rock, space rock and more straightforward rock music. They don't just take their inspiration from today's bands, but they also look back on the music of the sixties and seventies. Therefore it's no surprise you'll hear bands like The Doors, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep in their sound. And also bands such as King Crimson and Hawkwind could have been an influence in the compositions they wrote for their second album. Even bands like Danzig, Fields Of The Nephilim and Dead Flowers came to mind when I played this album. The songs aren't too complex and probably don't have too much to offer for those who are more into the bands we normally review on our website.
Anyway, it was nice to have a listen to an almost completely different style of music then I am used to. Tomorrow's Ghost and the bonus track Lazy Sundae have enough to offer to keep you entertained. Those mellow pieces of music move very much towards progressive rock and the other tracks are not just songs with heavy guitars and the sound of an organ. In their genre the band does very well. Therefore a positive verdict is well deserved in the end. Recommended to those who enjoy the aforementioned bands!
